BIO:

Brenda holds a Masters of Science in graphic information technology. Brenda wrote and illustrated Short Front Legs: Observations of the Human Species from a Tired Mother (available on Amazon as Kindle, paperback, hardback and audiobook formats), published 2023.

Brenda is currently the art director for the National Security Science magazine at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This magazine was the awarded the Southwest Science Writers Association 2020 and 2021 visual communication award and the 2022 Best of the Southwest award. She also hosts the National Security Science podcast (cited in best National Security podcasts, and awarded Graniculus Communication Resilience award). She also was finalist for the international Adobe Government Awards for her design work on the 2018 LANL Employee Giving Campaign; designed and lead the distribution of the 75th anniversary LANL coin that given to 10,000 employees; and awarded cover spot for scientific illustrations in Advanced Materials and Propellants, Explosives and Pyrotechnics. She is also the illustrator of a popular children’s book, Goodnight, Los Alamos by Whitney Spivey that won Best Picture Book from the Arizona and New Mexico book awards. She also received New Mexico Women Press Awards for the National Security Science 2023 Oppenheimer magazine for graphic design.

Brenda lives in Northern New Mexico with her husband, three kids and her lazy Ridgeback dog. She loves snowboarding and mountain biking, and creative outlets such as songwriting, painting, and writing. Brenda studied abroad in France, Spain, and Mexico. She graduated as a Presidential Associates Honors Scholar from New Mexico State University. Travel and studying different cultures led to a passion for design and language. She studied digital media arts, worked for a safari travel company, owns her own graphic design business and is a hobby blogger. She has currently is a visual communicator for Los Alamos National Laboratory, and has successfully applied her skills to a variety of projects including branding, publication design, scientific illustration, campaigns, and exhibit design.
